Access Statement for Pressland Country House

Introduction
Pressland Country House is located in the rural countryside of West Devon and is surrounded by rolling agricultural farm land in every direction. The famous market town of Hatherleigh is a mile and half’s drive away. We have two holiday lets available located at Pressland House which is on a hill but with a gradual approach.

Woodpecker Holiday let sleeps up to six people and has 3 bedrooms over three floors. Nuthatch holiday let sleeps up to 4 people and has 1 bedroom and is all on one level. Pressland House was built in the 1850′s but both holiday lets have recently been refurbished to the highest standards.

Pre-Arrival

    • For full details and maps of how to reach us please see the directions section of our website. Alternatively, you can plan your journey by car or public transport using www.transportdirect.info; simply enter your postcode and ours, which is EX20 3LW to get directions.
    • The nearest railway station is Exeter which is 29.3 miles away. Taxis are available at the station. If you require an accessible taxi this can be booked in advance. Gemini Taxis – 01392 666666.
    • The nearest bus stop is in Hatherleigh but you can ask the driver stop at the end of our drive which is on the main route from Okehampton to Hatherleigh. In Hatherleigh there is a shelter with seating. Bus times can vary, for further details see the bus operator’s website www.stagecoachbus.com.
    • You can arrange for shopping to be delivered in time for your arrival. We would recommend Waitrose services at www.waitrose.com and use our postcode EX20 3LW.

Key Collection, Welcome and Car Parking

    • The key can be collected from Pressland House which is next door to the holiday lets.
    • You will be shown round your accommodation and any questions will answered.
    • The parking area has a gravel surface with a gravel walkway leading to the cottage.
    • There is plenty of space for parking in Pressland House’s parking area.

Entrance to Property

    • The front door of Nuthatch Holiday Let is 820mm/32.3ins wide.
    • The front door of Woodpecker Holiday Let is 750mm/29.5ins wide.
    • There is one door lip into Nuthatch holiday let.
    • There are two shallow steps into Woodpecker holiday let.
    • There are NO handrails at the entrance of either property.
    • The floor service inside the entrance to Woodpecker is tiled.
    • The floor service inside the entrance to Nuthatch, and throughout, is wood effect vinyl.
    • Both Holiday Let entrances are well lit.<
    • Nuthatch has a double door leading to private courtyard. Opening is 1070mm/42.2ins.

Halls, Stairs, Landings, Passageways

    Woodpecker Holiday Let
    • The hall, stairs and landings are well lit using a combination of ceiling and wall lights.
    • Width of first staircase is 700mm/27.6ins wide and has 16 steps with 1 handrail. Second staircase is 710mm/28ins and has 15 steps with 1 handrail.
    • Second floor landing is 780mm/30.8ins wide.
    • The floor covering is wood with rugs in both lets.
    • Being the original staircase, it is quite steep but there is a handrail on one side. The second flight of stairs is similar.
    • Nuthatch holiday let has no staircase.

 
Sitting Room/Lounge

    • Woodpecker holiday let sitting room/lounge is situated on the ground floor with access from kitchen/diner at the same level.
    • The door opening to the lounge is 750mm/29.5ins wide.
    • The room has a mixture of seating with sofas and soft chairs.
    • Furniture can be moved.
    • There is a widescreen digital television with remote control, subtitles, and a DVD player.
    • Lighting is natural daylight and by night overhead lighting can be used as well as table lamps around the room.
    • The flooring is wooden with rug.
    • Nuthatch Holiday Let sitting room/lounge is situated on the ground floor with access from kitchen/diner at the same level with no door as it forms one room. All other info the same as Woodpecker.

Dining Room

    • Woodpecker dining room is part of the kitchen.

      • The dining table is a circular central pedestal table (moveable side to side) 1000mm in diameter, 682mm/26.8ins from floor to lowest point of table (underspace) and is 740mm/29.2ins high.
      • There is free space around the table.
      • Chairs (all moveable) – 6 chairs with padded seats that have no arms.
      • Lighting is natural daylight with wall lighting and table lamps around the room.
      • Flooring is tiled.

    • Nuthatch dining room is part of the kitchen.

      • There is free space around the table.
      • The Dining table has legs on each corner and is 610mm/24ins from floor to lowest point of table (underspace) and is 740mm/29.2ins high.
      • Chairs (all moveable) – 4 pine chairs with no arms and loose seat pads.
      • Lighting is natural daylight with wall lighting and table lamps around the room.
      • Flooring is wood.

Kitchen

    • Both holiday let kitchens are situated on the ground floor with step free level access from the dining room.
    • Glasses and crockery can be moved from wall cupboards to lower cupboards, if required, please request this when booking.
    • Large cutlery and utensils, electric can opener and corded kettle rotating 360.
    • The kitchen is evenly lit with halogen spotlights above work surfaces.
    Woodpecker Holiday Let
    • The door of the oven in Woodpecker drops down and the handle is 340mm/13.4ins above the floor. The hob is 930mm/36.6ins above the floor.
    • Worktop and sink are 908mm/35.8ins above the floor.
    • Fridge freezer available, fridge door handle 540mm/21.3ins, freezer door handle 575mm/22.6ins.
    • Flooring is tiled.
    Nuthatch Holiday Let
    • The door of the oven in Nuthatch drops down and the handle is 735mm/28.9ins and 410mm/16.2ins above the floor when open. The hob is 930mm/36.6ins above the floor.
    • Worktop and sink are 915mm/39ins above the floor.
    • Fridge (with freezer compartment) door handle at 750mm/29.5ins high.

Bedrooms and Sleeping Areas

    • Nuthatch holiday let provides accommodation on one level without steps including the bedroom which has one double bed. A sofa bed for use by a personal assistant/carer or friend/family member is available in the ground floor sitting room.
    • The door in Nuthatch to the ground floor bedroom is 720mm/28.4ins wide.
    • Woodpecker holiday let has bedrooms on the first and second floors only with access up steep staircases.
    • The height of all beds from the top of the mattress to the floor is 450mm/17.7ins.
    • The mattresses are hypoallergenic.
    • The bedding is poly/cotton.

Bathrooms, Shower-rooms and Toilets

    • Nuthatch provides the only ground floor bedroom and has an en-suite bathroom, which has the following:
    • Step free, level access.
    • Door opening 790mm/31.5ins wide.
    • A shower with small step into it.
    • Woodpecker has one ground floor toilet, step free with a door opening 790mm/31.5ins wide.
    • Woodpecker’s other bathrooms are on the first and second floors and have good natural lighting and ceiling lights for night time.

Additional Information

    • Trained assistance dogs are welcome.
    • The mobile phone reception can be poor for some networks and good for others.
    • The nearest General Hospital with an A&E unit and walk in NHS is 30 miles away and the nearest Doctor’s surgery is 1.6 mile away. Further information is in the welcome folder.
